How to clean glass shower doors
After each shower
Use a clean, soft rubber squeegee on the glass.
Dry handles and hinges with a soft cloth.
Run the bathroom exhaust fan or ventilate the room. Leave the shower door slightly open to dry when it can rest safely without blocking a walkway.
Weekly cleaning
If your glass and coating instructions permit it, mix warm water with a few drops of mild liquid soap. Wipe gently with a clean, soft cloth, rinse with clean water, and dry with microfiber. Use your product-specific cleaner when the care sheet calls for one.
For CRL shower hardware, use mild liquid soap diluted in warm water and a soft cloth. Rinse and dry. Keep aggressive cleaners away from hinges, handles, seals, and nearby finishes.
Hard-water spots and soap buildup
Remove fresh deposits regularly before they become harder to clean. If normal cleaning does not work, send us a photograph and your project details before trying stronger products. Persistent marks may be deposits, coating damage, or glass etching; they do not all respond to the same treatment.
Avoid abrasive pads, razor blades, scouring powders, and unapproved chemicals. Never mix cleaning products. Follow the specific manufacturer's instructions if they prescribe a different cleaning method.
Coated, frosted, and decorative glass
An easy-clean coating does not make glass maintenance-free. You still need routine cleaning, using products compatible with that coating.
Frosted, etched, tinted, and decorative glass may have different care requirements. Do not apply a polishing compound, water-repellent treatment, or strong stain remover unless approved for the exact surface. Tell us which side is treated if you know; otherwise, we can help identify your project's specifications.
How to clean custom mirrors and gym mirrors
Start with a clean microfiber cloth lightly dampened with warm water.
If a cleaner is needed, use one approved for the mirror.
Apply liquid to the cloth, not directly to the mirror.
Keep joints, edges, and the backing dry.
Dry with a separate clean cloth.
Avoid acidic, alkaline, ammonia-based, or abrasive cleaners unless the mirror manufacturer specifically permits them.
For gym mirrors, keep weights and exercise equipment from striking the glass. Do not attach equipment or heavy accessories to the mirror. Report loose panels, cracks, or damaged edges promptly.
Glass railings, pool fencing, and exterior hardware
Remove loose grit before wiping glass. Clean with products approved for the glass and surrounding metal finish, then rinse and dry where safe to do so.
Stainless steel hardware care
For stainless steel, our general routine is to clean every one to two weeks under normal conditions, or as directed for your finish. Use warm water, a little mild liquid soap, and a soft cloth. Rinse and dry thoroughly. On brushed stainless steel, wipe in the direction of the grain.
Rinse promptly with fresh water after exposure to salt or pool chemicals where safe to do so, then dry. Avoid bleach, chlorine cleaners, acidic products, steel wool, and abrasive pads. Use polish, restoration products, or wax only if approved for the specific finish. If you see rust-colored marks or discoloration, send us a photo before treating it.
Look for chipped glass, cracked panels, movement, missing components, or hardware changes. Do not tighten structural clamps or adjust anchors yourself. Avoid leaning ladders against glass.
Keep furniture and climbable objects away from pool barriers. If a pool gate fails to close or latch, restrict access to the pool and arrange a prompt assessment.
Interior glass walls, doors, and storefronts
Keep floor-level tracks and guides free of debris where accessible. Use handles to operate doors and avoid forcing a sticking door.
Keep glass edges away from impacts. Do not lubricate, adjust, or dismantle hinges, closers, locks, or rollers without the product instructions or professional advice. If a door drags, strikes adjacent glass, or suddenly changes position, stop using it and contact us.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best glass shower door cleaner?
The right cleaner depends on the glass, coating, and nearby hardware. There is no single product we recommend for every installation. Use your project instructions or contact us before purchasing a new cleaner.
Can I use vinegar or a household limescale remover?
Do not assume it is suitable. Acids may damage some hardware finishes, mirror backing, adjacent stone, or surface treatments. Use them only where explicitly allowed by the relevant manufacturers, while protecting surrounding materials.
How long should I wait before using my new shower?
Follow the waiting time given at installation. Sealant cure requirements depend on the product and conditions. Do not use a generic online waiting time in place of your project instructions.
Why is water escaping from my frameless shower?
Possible causes include showerhead direction, worn or displaced seals, door alignment, or curb and waterproofing conditions. Frameless enclosures use operating gaps and are not watertight tanks. Send photos of the door, seals, curb, and where the water appears. Do not add silicone yourself before assessment.
Can you replace a shower door seal or bottom sweep?
For BOON GLASS installations, contact us to assess the issue. Replacement depends on the glass thickness, profile, condition, and parts availability. We will explain the proposed work and any applicable charges before proceeding.
What should I do if glass is chipped, cracked, or loose?
Stop using the affected installation and keep people away. Do not move the panel, operate the door, or attempt a repair. Contact us promptly. For broken glass or an immediate hazard, keep the area isolated and arrange appropriate professional assistance. Photograph the issue only from a safe position.
Do you repair installations completed by another company?
Our aftercare service is for installations completed by BOON GLASS. For third-party work, contact the original installer or manufacturer.
What does my warranty cover?
Your written project documents explain the applicable coverage. Our standard invoice addresses manufacturing defects at delivery and lists exclusions for damage after installation, improper cleaning, misuse, and third-party damage or modifications. Any separate glass, hardware, or installation coverage follows its own written terms.
Water spotting and mineral buildup require regular care. Discoloration or corrosion caused by moisture, harsh cleaners, or improper maintenance is addressed under your project's written terms.
Is an aftercare visit free?
Tell us what is happening so we can assess your request. Our standard invoice specifies a $200 per-visit fee for service outside warranty coverage. We will confirm the terms that apply to your project and any charge before scheduling the visit.
What should I check after delivery or installation?
Inspect your glass within 24 hours of installation or delivery. If you notice a concern, send us a written description and photographs taken from a safe position. Include your invoice or project reference and follow the inspection and reporting deadlines in your project documents.
Should I choose a swing or sliding shower door?
A swing door needs clear space to open safely. A sliding system can help where outward clearance is limited, but entrance width and cleaning access still matter. We assess your opening and help you compare suitable options.
Why choose custom glass instead of a standard enclosure?
Custom glass offers flexibility for unusual dimensions, angles, and layout requirements. We measure the finished opening and account for wall variations within the design's limits. A standard enclosure can also be suitable when the opening falls within its adjustment range. Construction defects may need correction before either option is installed.
What affects custom glass installation cost?
Dimensions, glass specifications, configuration, hardware, access, existing conditions, and installation complexity all affect the price. Share your location, photographs, and scope so we can explain the appropriate next steps.
Can I change or cancel my custom order?
We may be able to accommodate a change before fabrication starts. Submit your request in writing and obtain written approval from BOON GLASS. Approved changes may affect pricing and timing. Once fabrication starts, orders cannot be canceled or changed.
